Digital Surveillance and Closed-Circuit Television

Closed-Circuit Television or CCTV has become one of the most integral parts of Digital Surveillance. CCTV cameras can now be commonly found at places having high security concerns. CCTV technology is a response to the growing security threats in the 21st century world. The Closed-Circuit cameras capture the different happenings in the concerned places with the help of video cameras and transmit the signal to a specific set of monitors which are kept an eye upon by the people concerned with the security.

Closed-Circuit Television is used in areas where the security concern is high like Airports, Banks, and Military Installations etc. In the Industrial concerns, CCTV cameras are of high importance. CCTV cameras may be installed for both capturing a particular event and monitoring a particular activity on a regular basis.

The importance of CCTV cameras has increased with the increased terrorist activities. Any unusual or absurd activity in high security areas like the Airports can be immediately be taken notice of  causing immediate action to curb any uncertain event that may take place . The CCTV cameras have also helped in the cause of bringing down the crime in places like Banks. Now quite a few CCTV cameras are placed in the different parts of the banks which closely monitor each and every activity taking place in the bank and the monitor is generally placed in the security office. The manager may also use the CCTV cameras to monitor the different activities of the employees of the Bank.

Many developed nations like USA and UK are using CCTV cameras for traffic-monitoring and can immediately take notice of the accidents that take place or can even take notice of the traffic jams. Many of the CCTV cameras at traffic signals are owned by private companies to help the GPS system.
